Moving On...

So, about 3 weeks from today, I'll be moving into my & pootrootbeer's new home. Excitement, fear, giddiness, all that stuff...

But what I really need are some mover recommendations. Anyone have a mover in the tri-state area they really like? Mike & I will be doing individual moves to make things a little easier and cost- and time-effective. So we're each moving the contents of one 1-bedroom apartment about 4 miles.

Suggestions? Recommendations?

Being in Ohio I haven't used him, but FASTEDDIE from the old Bronze has a moving business. SweePer's lj or maybe not , as in the never hire friends caveat?

Eddie hates moves in the city, and I can't say I blame him. When I moved about 3 years ago, we chatted about it, but he tends to do much bigger moves than what I need anyway.

I'd be wary of moving testimonials, and here's a testimonial to show you why. :)

Em and I moved the day after each other with the same company. My guys were great, they were fast, careful with my stuff, and figured out a way to save me a lot of money.

Em's guys were slow, broke a bunch of stuff, and didn't offer the same flat rate vs hourly deal my guy did.

I'm betting you'll see the same problem with any big moving company.

Yeah, I was moving most of the furniture, and moving more stuff over all, so it made sense to have me go first.

Last time I moved I used Moveco Movers: http://www.movecomovers.com/.
My friend Amita has used them several and had good experiences every time. I thought they were very efficient and easy to work with.

hi! i found your journal randomly. congratulations on your new place!

i used first american moving (http://www.firstamericanmoving.com) when i moved in october. both my boyfriend and i moved our apartments at the same time, same truck, and we saved a TON of money (and time) doing it that way. the movers were fantastic and they put everything exactly where we wanted it. they even disassembled/reassembled all of our furniture, and NOTHING broke. can't recommend them more highly!

oh, and i've used them a couple of times before in moving around NYC, as have my friends -- and they were all great! surprisingly!
