Comments on the Tonys will be here, because there are some things I will probably say that shouldn't be said in a more public social media forum

For starters, who is this twerpy child who has been to every show, and to the Tonys twice, yet 17 years in the business and I'm shafted again?

Becker Update

Surgery hasn't happened yet. I'm in touch with his sister and hearing updates semi-regularly.

His mom is looking into traveling out there to keep an eye on him while he's recuperating, but I'm sure he could use a support system from his friends. He's at Sherman Oaks Hospital.

Call from Becker

Resurfacing on LJ at Becker's request.

He left me a message just now; he's checked himself into the hospital to have his gallbladder removed. I know he's been trying to manage the issues with diet for quite some time, but I guess it was time for medical intervention.

He'll be MIA for a few days, and I'm sure he'd appreciate your good wishes, vibes, etc...

Lyrics poetry meme

Via just about everyone at this point...

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

(I opted not to maintain the four lines per stanza format)

Up On This Hill In This Uncanny House

Occurred to me the other day
If you should ever leave me
Chow Mein and bowling

I haven't slept for two days
Got my sweet, sweet love

Trust was never meant for me

Sweet is the night of a room window open by candlelight
All I need is a little time
I've got a great idea

The problem of leisure
Gone, she's gone
We're crowded up close
In the warm room

Lives are like retractable pencils
The girls today in society go for classical poetry
So much for the city

Something in your eyes
She's just sixteen years old
Some say that we're reckless

You may tire of me as our December sun is setting

Thanks... someone!

[profile] pootrootbeer & I got a delivery slip at home, for a package from Amazon. Yay, presents!

So Saturday morning we hike down to the post office to collect our box, open it up... it's Scattergories! Off the wishlist! Hooray!!

Only problem? The packing slip is for a case of Snuggle Wild Orchid & Vanilla Kiss fabric softener sheets. Ordered by someone I've never heard of from a tire company in Alberta, Canada, and shipped to someone I've never heard of in Schaumburg, IL. I called Amazon, but the customer service rep was both thoroughly confused and thoroughly unhelpful. Apparently, without the order number, they can't tell me who sent this to us!

So, if it's anyone on my FList- THANK YOU!! We'd love to thank you properly for the very thoughtful housewarming gift, but... we don't know who you are!!

10 years ago yesterday, I met a bunch of strangers at a restaurant, and it changed my life.

Moving On...

So, about 3 weeks from today, I'll be moving into my & [ profile] pootrootbeer's new home. Excitement, fear, giddiness, all that stuff...

But what I really need are some mover recommendations. Anyone have a mover in the tri-state area they really like? Mike & I will be doing individual moves to make things a little easier and cost- and time-effective. So we're each moving the contents of one 1-bedroom apartment about 4 miles.

Suggestions? Recommendations?

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday wishes to 2 of my favorite Houston ladies, [ profile] moppety & [ profile] pegster.

As I will be celebrating with Ms. Peg this evening with yummy beer and delicious fried cheese curds, I will raise my glass (and curd) to you, Ms. Moppety-moo!

For the Bible Tells Me So...

A client's partner has been working on this film for the past few years. My bosses attended its premiere last night and said it was incredibly powerful.

It begins a short run at the Quad Cinema in NYC this Friday, 10/5, and its performance and ticket sales there will determine its future distribution. If you live in NYC or have friends here, I encourage you to spread the word.

Synopsis from the website:

Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate?

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle International Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture, and in the process reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based almost solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible. As the film notes, most Christians live their lives today without feeling obliged to kill anyone who works on the Sabbath or eats shrimp (as a literal reading of scripture dictates).

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopalian Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

Big Day!

Today I did something I have never done before and do not plan to do again for many years: I signed contracts to buy an apartment!!!

My lawyer called me at 10am, telling me that after all these weeks of setbacks and drawbacks, and general bumps in the road, the seller was planning to leave town for a week and a half tomorrow afternoon, and [ profile] pootrootbeer & I should come in at 12:30 to sign contracts, or this was going to drag on.

And so we did. Signed our names a dozen times each. And wrote great big checks. And have to start getting a million other things in place (mortgage commitment letter, Co-Op Board package, homeowners insurance).

Holy Crap! I'm going to be a homeowner! Together with [ profile] pootrootbeer! Holy crap!
